LANA KLINE, NCTMB, BS

06/14/2008
Muncy Massage Clinic
Massage therapy is a second or later-life career choice for Lana, who also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bloomsburg University as an accounting major. After more than 16 years of working at a desk, sometimes in stressful positions, Lana realized that sitting at a desk all day every day was not for her.
It was her interest in dogs and competitive dog sports that actually got Lana started on the path to massage therapy. Looking for a tax deductible reason to go to dog shows, Lana took a basic course in canine massage therapy in 2005, and immediately wanted more knowledge about the physiology of muscles. Lana also wanted to be able to do chair massage at dog shows in multiple states so in January 2006 she enrolled in a program that would prepare her to sit for the national exam. By her third term at McCann, however, she realized that she thoroughly enjoyed massage therapy and knew she would want to pursue it as at least a part-time occupation. With a keen interest in Complimentary Alternative Methods (CAM) for health, and appreciating the benefits of massage for her own chronic pain issues, massage therapy seemed like the perfect choice.
Two years later, on January 17, 2008, Lana graduated with distinction (GPA 3.89) from McCann with a diploma in their 1,000-hour program in Massage Therapy. Muncy Massage Clinic opened for business just one week later, January 24, in Washington Square, Muncy, PA.
Four months after graduating and opening Muncy Massage Clinic, Lana became nationally certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) by passing their standardized exam on May 20, 2008. The NCBTMB provides the only nationally standardized certification that is also recognized by 36 states for their licensure, certification or registration requirements for massage therapists.
The NCBTMB requires its applicants to have completed a minimum of 500 hours of formal education, to provide proof of core knowledge and competencies, and to pass a standardized exam. Certificants must then do continuing education and adhere to the NCBTMB’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice in order to remain nationally certified.
In addition to being nationally certified, Lana is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). AMTA also requires their members to meet requirements similar to the NCBTMB's. Lana is a member of the Advisory Committee for the massage program at the Sunbury campus of McCann and has also been a guest speaker in classes at the school.
Lana’s massage education at McCann included over 750 hours of massage, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and somatics-specific coursework. She will be pursuing continuing education in the following subjects: pain relief for the neck, shoulder and arm, myofascial release, geriatric massage and Reiki.
On May 23, 2009, Lana became a Certified Reiki Master Teacher (Level IIIb) in the Usui Shiki Ryoho system, after completing Level II in September 2008, and Level IIIa in December 2008.
Lana, along with her husband John and son Urie have been residents of Muncy boro more than 9 years. They have five dogs, two that Lana competes with in AKC and UKC obedience trials in the northeast. A third is in training, with the remaining two being “just” pets. Urie attends the University of Pittsburgh Honors College where he also plays snare in the marching band drumline.
Lana looks forward to meeting many of you at the Muncy Massage Clinic, or while out walking her dogs!! Lana continues to teach and train dog obedience on a part-time basis. (See www.pawandhand.com for more information.) She also offers canine massage at dog shows, in her home, or at the client’s/dog’s home. (For hygienic and allergenic reasons, canine clients are NOT seen at the clinic.)
